About Tao Lin

Tao Lin’s appearances in North America, Asia and Europe have brought unanimous critical accolades and praise for his subtle, intimate pianism and brilliant technique. A versatile musician, he is equally at home as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.

As a soloist, he has performed with Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony, Miami Chamber Orchestra, Knoxville Civic Orchestra, University of Miami Symphony, Harid Philharmonia, and Lynn University Chamber Orchestra. A devoted chamber musician, Mr. Lin has concertized throughout the United States as a founding member of the Berlin Piano Quartet. He has also appeared in concerts with Miami, Bergonzi, Alcon, and Rosalyra String Quartets as well as with distinguished musicians such as Ida Haendel, Charles Castleman, Roberta Peters, Eugenia Zukerman, and Philip Quint.

Recent and upcoming engagements include concerts in California (Santa Rosa, Yuba City, Gualala, Orange County, and La Jolla), New York (Rockefeller University, Chautauqua Institute), Washington DC (The National Gallery of Art), Arkansas (Little Rock), Alabama (Mobile), and Florida (Miami, Sanibel, and Lake Worth).

Mr. Lin was awarded top prizes in the competitions of the National Society of Arts and Letters, the Music Teacher’s National Association, Palm Beach International Invitational amongst others. He was also a finalist in the 1st International Piano-e-Competition and the 1st Osaka International Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Shanghai Trio.

He is currently Head of the Collaborative Piano Program at the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University, which offers both a Master of Music and Performer's Certificate in Collaborative Piano. During summer months, he serves as the official collaborative pianist for Bowdoin International Music Festival.

Mr. Lin has worked with a series of distinguished teachers including Joseph Kalichstein, John Perry, Leon Fleisher, Rita Sloan, Stephen Hough, Ivan Davis, David Northington and Roberta Rust. He has recorded for the Piano Lovers and Romeo Records labels.

About Tian Ling
Winner of many prestigious awards, including high honors at the Eighth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1989, Tian Ying has become well known for his eloquent, poetic, dramatically intense performances. With his reputation for unusually searching and profound interpretations played at the the highest level of virtuoso accomplishment, Ying has earned a distinguished place among today's most exciting, original and accomplished artists of his generation.

In recent seasons Tian Ying has appeared widely throughout the United Stated including the Rochester Philharmonic, Louisville Orchestra, Chicago Sinfonietta at Orchestra Hall, and symphony orchestras of Fort Worth, Toledo, Columbus, Colorado, Hartford, Jacksonville, Spokane, Wichita, Colorado Springs, Oakland, Fort Collins, Alexandria, Madison, Ann Arbor, Shanghai, Hong Kong Philharmonic, among others. In 2001-02 season alone, Tian Ying performed 9 different concerti with orchestras across the US. 2003-04 Tian Ying makes his debut appearances with the Atlanta Symphony, Roanoke Symphony and Santa Maria Symphony along with numerous return engagements. Solo recitals have taken Tian Ying across North America, Europe, and from Casablanca to Seoul, and he frequently conducts master classes in universities and colleges around the country. 2001 marked his return to the Chinese concert stage with the Shanghai Symphony and the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony after an absence of more than 20 years.

Born in Shanghai and educated in the U.S., Tian Ying made his first public appearance with the Shanghai Symphony at age 10. He attended the Interlochen Arts Academy and the New England Conservatory of Music where he was a Presidential Scholar and a student of the celebrated pianist Russell Sherman. There have been many articles written about Tian Ying, including profiles in The New York Times, Christian Science Monitor, and People Magazine.

Fall 2002 marked the beginning of his tenure on the faculty at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
