About Yang Shen

Pianist Yang Shen has given concerts and recitals in Asia, North America, Europe and Israel to critical accolades.  She earned her Doctoral of Musical Arts degree at University of Southern California, where she also received her Master of Music degree, studying with the renowned pedagogue John Perry.  While there, Ms. Shen served as Piano Studio Assistant teaching students ranging from Bachelor to Doctoral programs.  Prior to moving to California, she graduated Suma cum Laude from The Conservatory of Music at Lynn University with a Bachelor of Music degree as a student of Roberta Rust.  Her other prominent piano teachers have included Jerome Lowenthal and Arie Vardi. 

Ms. Shen has been awarded top prizes in numerous competitions including The National Society of Arts and Letters Piano Competition, Josef Hoffman International Piano Competition, Los Angeles Liszt Piano Competition, Carmel International Music Competition amongst others.  She has also been invited to participate in some of the most prestigious piano events in the world including The Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, The Leeds International Piano Competition, and she was a semi-finalist in The 2004 Sydney International Piano Competition in Australia.  Most recently, Ms. Shen has performed in Fort Worth, Tempe, Salt Lake City, Sioux City and Minneapolis.  Her performances have been broadcasted on ABC Classics, Australia, The Israel Cultural Channel, WXEL, “Classical Variations”, FL, National TV, Radio stations, China, and Minnesota Public Radio, MN.

Ms. Shen has also made appearances at the world most celebrated music festivals, such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Pianofest in the Hamptons and The Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara.  She is currently a collaborative pianist and a piano faculty member of the Preparatory Division of Conservatory at Lynn University.

About Daniel Shapiro

Daniel Shapiro received a Bachelor of Music degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Southern California, and Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in piano performance from the Peabody Conservatory. Teachers have included Leon Fleisher, John Perry, Joanna Graudan, and Reginald Stewart. Dr. Shapiro continues to gain recognition as a leading interpreter of Schubert, Mozart, Brahms and Beethoven, whose 32-sonata cycle he has twice performed. He has given critically acclaimed recitals and concerto appearances across the U.S., in Brazil, Britain, Ireland, Spain and France, and at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. Dr. Shapiro has performed with orchestras including the National Symphony, the Sao Paulo State Symphony Orchestra, the Academy of London, the Colorado National Repertory Orchestra, the Knoxville Symphony and the Los Angeles Debut Orchestra. He received the top prize at the 1992 William Kapell International Piano Competition, and also won the American Pianists' Association Beethoven Fellowship Award. As a chamber musician, he has performed regularly with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Chicago and Cleveland Orchestras, and has also performed with the Cavani and Mira Quartets. He has participated at the Marlboro and Ravinia Festivals and the Fellowship Program at Tanglewood. As a conductor, Mr. Shapiro studied with Daniel Lewis, Victor Yampolsky, Fritz Zweig, and Gustav Meier. He was previously on the piano faculty of the University of Iowa, and was appointed to the CIM faculty in 1997.


About Tao Lin

Tao Lin’s appearances in North America, Asia and Europe have brought unanimous critical accolades and praise for his subtle, intimate pianism and brilliant technique. A versatile musician, he is equally at home as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician.

As a soloist, he has performed with Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Winnipeg Symphony, Miami Chamber Orchestra, Knoxville Civic Orchestra, University of Miami Symphony, Harid Philharmonia, and Lynn University Chamber Orchestra. A devoted chamber musician, Mr. Lin has concertized throughout the United States as a founding member of the Berlin Piano Quartet. He has also appeared in concerts with Miami, Bergonzi, Alcon, and Rosalyra String Quartets as well as with distinguished musicians such as Ida Haendel, Charles Castleman, Roberta Peters, Eugenia Zukerman, and Philip Quint.

Recent and upcoming engagements include concerts in California (Santa Rosa, Yuba City, Gualala, Orange County, and La Jolla), New York (Rockefeller University, Chautauqua Institute), Washington DC (The National Gallery of Art), Arkansas (Little Rock), Alabama (Mobile), and Florida (Miami, Sanibel, and Lake Worth).

Mr. Lin was awarded top prizes in the competitions of the National Society of Arts and Letters, the Music Teacher’s National Association, Palm Beach International Invitational amongst others. He was also a finalist in the 1st International Piano-e-Competition and the 1st Osaka International Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Shanghai Trio.

He is currently Head of the Collaborative Piano Program at the Conservatory of Music at Lynn University, which offers both a Master of Music and Performer's Certificate in Collaborative Piano. During summer months, he serves as the official collaborative pianist for Bowdoin International Music Festival.

Mr. Lin has worked with a series of distinguished teachers including Joseph Kalichstein, John Perry, Leon Fleisher, Rita Sloan, Stephen Hough, Ivan Davis, David Northington and Roberta Rust. He has recorded for the Piano Lovers and Romeo Records labels.
